Rare New Open Box Tamiya 58245 1/10 R/C Alfa Romeo 156 Racing Kit FF-02 Chassis. Released by Tamiya on October 2, 1999, this FF02 Chassis based, self assembly electric RC model, is of the Alfa Romeo 156 that won the Italian Superturismo Championship in 1999 driven by Fabrizio Giovanardi. The lightweight Lexan polycarbonate body shell in this kit is an accurately recreates the cars superb lines. Decals of the 156 Selenia livery are included in the kit. Based on the M03 Chassis the Front Wheel Drive FF02 had a short extension to lengthen the wheelbase and was used in only 3 Tamiya Models. Parts and spares were readily available being the same in many respects to the popular M03 series. Like many Tamiya models produced in the 80s and 90s, the kit comes with nylon/plastic and sintered brass bush type bearings that after a short while, when dust and grit get into them, will abrade the metal drive shafts that spin in them – if you are building this kit to race seriously these should be replaced by steel ball bearings. The cross chassis mounted battery position and high centre of gravity made this configuration difficult to handle in comparison to its predecessor and was prone to excessive over-steer on tight cornering. Changing the friction type shocks for oil filled and tweaking spring stiffness did overcome this problem to some degree.
