I talked to Russell but he wanted nothing to do with the engine stuff so he turned me over to the “Little Old Grey Haired Lady”. She was in charge of all the old engine parts. She started with them during World War Two and was the only person to assemble all the 61 & 29 engines during their production runs. She knew her stuff! She was very nice and we talked for a long time. Part of our conversation was about the plastic display boxes. Everything was in storage and I had to go back the following week and she would have the parts for me. When I got there I paid for my wanted items and then she asked me if I wanted some of the plastic boxes. Of course you know my answer. I waited in the lobby for a long time but when she came back out she had a cardboard box with four 61 boxes and 10 of the very small 29 boxes. Told me this was during to Korean War and the Dooling were almost 100% into defense work for Southern California Aircraft Manufacturers. Model engines were no longer important to them. All the boxes I got were dirty and has scratches. They were using them for parts storage boxes for their precision electric motors they were manufacturing. The red tray is my reproduction. The picture of the three different size boxes with engines is for reference only. The engine is one of my “Platinum Rebuilds” from the 1970’s. It had four holes in each lug. There is a slight difference in the color of the weld up patches in the lugs but you have to look real close to see. It’s a super engine. Comes with instructions and correct water slide decals. This plastic box is the last one I have. If you like the old model engines, join MECA (Model Engine Collectors Association) It’s a world wide organization.
